Western North Carolina Nature Center – Asheville, NC
Small spaces can make a big impact, especially when backed by purpose, partnership, and thoughtful design. The Songbird Garden at the Western North Carolina (WNC) Nature Center is a shining example of how a modest exhibit footprint can still offer deep engagement with the natural world.

This charming garden space, nestled within the Nature Center’s grounds, had long been a favorite spot for visitors, but the existing exhibit was weathered, outdated, and in need of fresh energy. Lupine Studios was brought in to lead a full revitalization.
We began by carefully deinstalling the old materials and prepping the space, stripping paint, restoring structural elements, and making room for a new vision. Our team designed and produced a colorful hand-painted mural to set the stage, refreshed specimen displays, and fabricated custom interpretive signage that invites curiosity.

Collaboration was key. We worked hand-in-hand with the Nature Center’s animal care and education teams to ensure the content was scientifically accurate and engaging for all ages. Together, we built an exhibit that highlights native Appalachian songbirds, offering not only beautiful species identification but also actionable takeaways, like tips for creating your own songbird-friendly garden at home.
